Sinan Turan

Born in Istanbul in 1962, Sinan Turan graduated from the Business Administration Department of Anadolu University’s Open Education Faculty. He began photographing in 1980 and became a member of the Istanbul Photography and Cinema Amateurs Association (İFSAK) in 1983. Between 1987 and 1989, he took part in the design and management of more than one hundred projects at the Gültekin Çizgen Multivision Studio. Turan passed away in 2023.

From the 1990s onward, he focused on digital photography technologies and design software, becoming an early adopter of digital production processes. With this technical expertise, he worked in the printing and cultural publishing sectors and produced stock photography for the field.

Throughout the 1990s, Turan played an active role in İFSAK’s administration, volunteering on the association’s annuals, short film festivals, and slide shows. His presentation Digital Cappadocia, featured in the 2nd Istanbul Slide Days in 1997, is considered one of the pioneering examples of digital storytelling in Türkiye. Through his technical consultancy and organizational contributions, Turan played a significant role in the dissemination of photographic culture.

The Sinan Turan Archive prominently features images of urban and rural landscapes from Türkiye, archaeological sites, scenes related to holiday culture, as well as architectural details and everyday life from various European cities.
